How to use our CGPA to Percentage Calculator
Pick your grading scale, choose your university formula, and type your CGPA. The tool shows your percentage, your grade class, a step-by-step solution, and a chart.
Select Grading Scale: Tap 4.0, 5.0, or 10.0. This is the top CGPA your school gives. Most Indian universities use 10.0. The 4.0 and 5.0 buttons lock when you pick a university formula. Students on a 4.0 system can also check the College GPA Calculator or the GPA Calculator.
University / Conversion Formula: Choose your school from the list. Each one has its own rule, like CGPA × 9.5 or (CGPA − 0.75) × 10. Pick "Generic / Normal" if you are not sure.
Enter Your CGPA: Type your CGPA, such as 8.5. You can use up to two decimal places. It must be between 0 and your chosen scale.
Multiplier (Custom Formula only): Type the number your CGPA gets multiplied by, like 10 or 9.5. This box shows up only when you pick "Custom Formula".
Offset (Custom Formula only): Type the number taken away from your CGPA before multiplying, like 0.75. Leave it at 0 if your school does not use one.

What Is CGPA?
CGPA means Cumulative Grade Point Average. It is the average of the grade points you earned in all your subjects and semesters. Most Indian schools and colleges use a 10-point scale, so the top score is 10.0. Some colleges in other countries use a 4.0 or 5.0 scale, where a Weighted GPA Calculator or an Unweighted GPA Calculator is more common.
Why Convert CGPA to Percentage
Many jobs, scholarships, and foreign universities ask for marks in percent, not in grade points. So students need to change their CGPA into a percentage. Government forms, visa papers, and job websites often have a box that only takes a percent value. For simple percent math outside of grading, the Percentage Calculator is handy.
How CGPA to Percentage Conversion Works
Each school picks its own rule. The most common rules are:
- CGPA × 9.5 — used by CBSE, Delhi University, and many others. A 8.5 CGPA becomes 80.75%.
- CGPA × 10 — used by many IITs, NITs, and state universities. A 8.5 CGPA becomes 85%.
- (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 — the UGC rule, also used by VTU. A 8.5 CGPA becomes 77.5%.
- (CGPA × 7.1) + 11 — used by Mumbai University.
If your school uses a 4.0 or 5.0 scale, the CGPA is first changed to a 10-point value. You do this by multiplying your CGPA by 10 and then dividing by your scale. For example, 3.2 on a 4.0 scale becomes 8.0 on a 10-point scale. This is the same kind of ratio step used in a Proportion Calculator.
Grade Classification Bands
Once you have a percentage, colleges sort it into a class. These bands are common in India:
- 90% and above — Outstanding (O)
- 75% to 89.99% — First Class with Distinction
- 60% to 74.99% — First Class
- 50% to 59.99% — Second Class
- 40% to 49.99% — Pass Class
- Below 40% — Fail

Important Things to Know
Always check your own university rule before you write a number on a form. The same 8.5 CGPA can be 77.5% at one college and 85% at another. Your marksheet, transcript, or the university website usually shows the official formula. Some universities also print the percent right on the marksheet, and that printed number is the one you should use.
CGPA is not the same as SGPA. SGPA is the grade point average for one semester only. CGPA adds up all your semesters. So a strong or weak semester will move your SGPA a lot, but move your CGPA just a little.
