Introduction

Action Points (AP) are what you spend in Rise of Kingdoms to attack barbarians, forts, and other targets on the map. AP potions come in five sizes: 50, 100, 500, 1,000, and 5,000. Counting them by hand is slow and easy to get wrong.

Type in how many of each potion you own, and this calculator adds up your total Action Points right away. You also get the total number of potions, the average AP per potion, how many full 1,000 AP bars you have, and which potion tier gives you the most AP.

There is also a goal planner. Pick a target AP number, choose which potion sizes you want to use, and the tool builds a plan that tells you how many of each potion you need. Turn on the "only use potions I already own" switch to see if your current stock is enough for an event, a KvK push, or a big barbarian run.

Every result comes with a chart and a step-by-step breakdown, so you can see exactly how the numbers add up. Run it before Ark of Osiris, Ceroli Crisis, or any event where AP matters, and you will know right away if you need to save more potions.

How to Use Our Rise of Kingdoms AP Potion Calculator

Type in how many action point potions you own in each size. The calculator adds up your total AP, shows how much each potion tier gives, and can build a potion plan to hit any AP goal you set.

50 AP Potions: Enter how many 50 AP potions are in your bag. Each one adds 50 action points.

100 AP Potions: Enter how many 100 AP potions you have. Each one adds 100 action points.

500 AP Potions: Enter your count of 500 AP potions. Each one adds 500 action points.

1,000 AP Potions: Enter how many 1,000 AP potions you own. Each one fills a full AP bar.

5,000 AP Potions: Enter your count of 5,000 AP potions. These are your biggest boosts.

Calculate button: Click it to run every step again at once. Totals also update as you type.

Reset button: Click it to clear all boxes and start fresh.

Target Action Points: Type the amount of AP you want to reach, like the AP needed for a full Kill Event push or an Ark of Osiris run.

Potion tiers you want to use: Tick the potion sizes you are willing to drink. Untick any tier you want to save.

Only use potions I already own: Turn this on to check if your current stock reaches your goal. Leave it off to get a full shopping list.

Build Potion Plan button: Click it to see how many potions of each size you need to hit your AP target.

Rise of Kingdoms Action Points (AP) and AP Potions

Action Points, or AP, are the energy you spend on the Rise of Kingdoms map. Every time you hit a barbarian, a barbarian fort, a cave, or a Guardian, you pay AP. Higher level targets cost more AP per hit. When your AP hits zero, you stop farming until it fills back up.

Your city stores up to 1,000 AP on its own, and it refills slowly over time (about 1 AP every 2 minutes, or roughly 720 AP a day). That is not much if you want to farm barbarians all day, so most players save AP potions and drink them during events.

AP Potion Values

  • 50 AP Potion: small, most common drop
  • 100 AP Potion: common from events and chests
  • 500 AP Potion: mid tier, good for daily farming
  • 1,000 AP Potion: fills a whole empty AP bar
  • 5,000 AP Potion: rare, best saved for big events

Adding them up is simple math: multiply how many of each potion you own by its AP value, then add all the totals together. For example, 6 potions worth 500 AP each give 3,000 AP. Ten 100 AP potions give another 1,000 AP, so your stock is 4,000 AP.

Where AP Potions Come From

You get AP potions from alliance gifts, daily objectives, Expedition chests, the Wheel of Fortune, event shops, Karuak and Ian's Ballads events, and paid bundles. They never expire, so it is smart to hold them until an event pays you for killing barbarians or forts.

Tips for Using AP

  • Potions can push your AP above the 1,000 cap, so you can stack a huge pool before an event starts.
  • Let your bar fill naturally first, then drink potions. Do not waste free AP.
  • Save big 1,000 and 5,000 potions for events like Mightiest Governor or barbarian-kill events, where each kill also earns points and rewards.
  • Barbarian forts and caves give better loot per AP than lone barbarians, so plan your AP around them.

Frequently asked questions

How much AP does it cost to attack a barbarian in Rise of Kingdoms?

The cost depends on the target and its level. A low-level barbarian costs only a few Action Points, and the cost climbs as the level goes up. Barbarian forts and caves cost more per hit than a single barbarian.

Tap any target on the map first. The info window shows the exact AP cost before you send your march, so you can plan your stack around it.

How long does it take to refill 1,000 Action Points from zero?

Your city makes about 1 AP every 2 minutes. That is 30 AP an hour and roughly 720 AP a day.

Going from 0 to the 1,000 AP cap takes about 33 hours and 20 minutes. That is why players hold potions instead of waiting for the bar to fill.

Can your Action Points go above the 1,000 cap?

Yes. The 1,000 cap only limits what your city refills on its own. Drinking potions pushes your AP past that number, and the extra does not drain away over time.

This is how players walk into a barbarian event with 50,000 AP or more ready to burn.

How many 50 AP potions equal one 1,000 AP potion?

Twenty. Each 50 AP potion gives 50 points, and 50 × 20 = 1,000.

Here are the other quick swaps:

  • 10 × 100 AP = 1,000 AP
  • 2 × 500 AP = 1,000 AP
  • 5 × 1,000 AP = 5,000 AP
  • 100 × 50 AP = 5,000 AP

How many barbarians can you kill with 10,000 AP?

Divide your AP by the AP cost of one hit. If a barbarian costs 25 AP, 10,000 AP gives you 400 kills. If it costs 10 AP, you get 1,000 kills.

Low-level barbarians stretch your AP much further, but they drop less loot and less commander XP.

Is it better to spend AP on barbarians or barbarian forts?

Forts usually pay more per Action Point. They drop chests with gems, speedups, and books, and every alliance member who joins gets rewards too.

Lone barbarians are faster and easier to solo, so they are better for quick commander XP and for event point grinding when forts are hard to find.

Do you lose Action Points if your march loses the fight?

Yes. AP is spent the moment your march attacks, win or lose. You do not get it back.

Send a strong enough march the first time, or you burn AP for nothing.

Should you save AP potions or use them right away?

Save them. Potions never expire, so holding them costs nothing.

Drink them during events that pay you twice for the same kill, like barbarian-kill days in Mightiest Governor or alliance events. Let your free 1,000 AP bar empty first so none of it is wasted.

How much AP should you save for a barbarian kill event?

It depends on your goal. A casual player who just wants the easy reward tiers can finish with 5,000 to 10,000 AP. Players chasing a top rank often stack 50,000 AP or more.

Work out your target by multiplying the AP cost per kill by the number of kills you need for the points you want.

Does killing barbarians give commander XP?

Yes. Every barbarian, fort, and cave kill gives XP to the commanders in that march. Higher level targets give more XP.

This makes AP potions a cheap way to level new commanders without spending sculptures or XP books.

What else uses Action Points besides barbarians?

AP is spent on map targets: barbarians, barbarian forts, caves and lairs, and special event monsters on the world map.

Gathering resources, attacking other players' cities, and fighting over structures like passes do not cost any AP.
