Introduction

This Gematria Calculator turns words into numbers. In Gematria, each letter has a value. When you add up the values, you get a number for the whole word or phrase. People have used this method for a long time to find hidden meaning in names, words, and ideas.

How to use our Gematria Calculator

What Is Gematria?

Gematria is an old way to turn letters into numbers. Each letter gets a number value. When you add up the values of all the letters in a word, you get one total number for that word. People have used gematria for a very long time to study words, names, and ideas.

The idea started with the Hebrew alphabet. Many people who study mysticism, like in Kabbalah, used it to find hidden meanings in holy texts. Today, people also use gematria with English letters. They look for words that share the same number. When two words add up to the same total, some folks believe those words may be linked in some way. How Letter Values Work

There is more than one way, or "cipher," to give letters their values. Here are some common ones:

  • English Ordinal: A is 1, B is 2, all the way to Z is 26.
  • English Gematria: Each value is six times the ordinal, so A is 6 and Z is 156.
  • Simple Gematria: The same as English Ordinal.
  • Jewish Gematria: Uses values based on Hebrew letter numbers.
  • Hebrew Standard (Mispar Hechrachi): The classic Hebrew way of counting letter values.

Reducing a Number

Some people like to take a big total and add its digits together until they get one small number. For example, 28 becomes 2 + 8 = 10, then 1 + 0 = 1. This single digit is called the reduced number. Frequently asked questions

Why do I get different numbers for the same word?

Each cipher gives letters its own values. So one word can have many totals. For example, English Ordinal sets A to 1, but English Gematria sets A to 6. When the letter values change, the total changes too. The calculator shows all of them at once so you can compare.

What is the primary cipher and why does it matter?

The primary cipher is your main cipher. You set it by clicking the star next to a cipher. It drives the reverse lookup and the letter-by-letter breakdown. Pick the one you care about most so those parts of the tool use it.

How does reverse lookup work?

Type a number instead of a word. The tool checks a built-in list of words and shows the ones that add up to that number in your primary cipher. It is a fun way to find words that share a value.

Why does reverse lookup show no matches?

The tool only checks a built-in word list, not every word. If no word in the list matches your number, you get nothing. Try a different number, or set English Ordinal as your primary cipher to get more hits.

What does Auto-Detect mode do?

Auto-Detect looks at what you type and picks the right mode for you. If you type letters, it uses Standard mode. If you type only numbers, it switches to Reverse Lookup. You do not have to choose by hand.

Do spaces and numbers count in the total?

No. Only letters get a value. Spaces, numbers, and other marks are skipped and add zero. So a phrase with spaces gives the same total as the same letters with no spaces.

Can I use this calculator on my phone?

Yes. The tool works on phones, tablets, and computers. On a small screen the boxes and chart fit to your view. You can also pick fewer columns to make the value tiles easier to read.

Are my searches saved after I close the page?

No. The history list only keeps your recent searches while the page is open. Once you close or reload the page, the list clears. Nothing is stored on a server.

What is the reduced number in the results table?

The reduced number takes the big total and adds its digits until you get one digit. For example, 28 becomes 2 plus 8, which is 10, then 1 plus 0, which is 1. Many people think each single digit holds its own meaning.

Does uppercase or lowercase change the value?

No. The tool treats A and a the same way. Capital letters and small letters give the same number, so you do not need to worry about how you type.

Can I turn off ciphers I do not want?

Yes. In the Cipher Selection list, uncheck any cipher to hide it from your results. Use Clear All to remove them all, or Select Base Ciphers to get the three most common ones fast.

How long can my word or phrase be?

You can type up to 200 characters. This includes letters, spaces, and any other marks. The counter under the box shows how many you have used.

Why are some ciphers shown in different colors?

Each cipher gets its own color so you can tell them apart fast. The color shows on the value tiles, the chart, and the table. This makes it easy to match a number to its cipher.

Can I reorder the ciphers?

Yes. Click the up and down arrows next to each cipher to move it. The order you set is used for the value tiles, the chart, and the table, so you can put your favorite cipher first.
