Introduction
Our Toll Calculator looks up the toll for a trip on a major U.S. toll road, using the road's own published rate table. Pick the road, where you get on and off, your vehicle class and how you pay, and it shows what that trip costs.
It covers four toll roads: the New Jersey Turnpike, the Garden State Parkway, the Ohio Turnpike and the Maine Turnpike. For the Pennsylvania Turnpike, use our PA Turnpike Toll Calculator.
The New Jersey Turnpike rates are the New Jersey Turnpike Authority's 2026 toll rate schedules.2 The Garden State Parkway rates are the Authority's 2026 Parkway toll rates.3 The Ohio Turnpike rates are the Schedule of Tolls effective January 1, 2026.1 The Maine Turnpike rates come from the Maine Turnpike Authority's toll charts, with rates effective November 1, 2021.5
How to Use Our Toll Calculator
Toll road: Pick the road you will drive.
Where you get on and where you get off: Pick the interchange or toll plaza where you enter the road and the one where you leave it. The names and numbers are the ones the road's rate table uses.
Garden State Parkway: The Parkway charges at toll plazas, not by where you enter and exit. Pick your direction of travel, then the first and the last toll plaza you pass. The calculator adds up every plaza in between that charges drivers going your way. Some Parkway barrier plazas charge in one direction only, and a ramp plaza charges only the moves printed for it, such as a northbound exit.3
Vehicle class: Pick your class the way the road defines it. Classes are set by the number of axles, and on some roads by height or towing. On the Ohio Turnpike, a vehicle less than seven feet six inches high over its first two axles counts as low, and a taller one counts as high.1
How you pay: Pick how you will pay, such as cash or E-ZPass. The list only shows the ways of paying that the road prices for your class.
Round trip: Tick this to add the toll for the drive back. The drive back is looked up in the table too, because some trips cost a different amount each way.
Ohio Turnpike barriers: West of Swanton and east of Newton Falls, the Ohio Turnpike charges a flat toll at the Westgate barrier (mile post 4.6) and the Eastgate barrier (mile post 238.7).1 Choose how many times your trip passes each one.
Click Calculate Toll. You will see the one-way toll, the round-trip toll if you asked for it, a breakdown of each toll, and the same trip priced for every way to pay.
How Toll Roads Set Their Prices
Tolls are fees you pay to drive on certain roads, bridges and tunnels. Each toll road sets its own prices and publishes them in a rate table.
Distance. On the Ohio Turnpike, a toll inside the ticket system is the rate per mile for your class times the miles between the two interchanges, rounded to the nearest quarter of a dollar.1
Vehicle class. Bigger vehicles are in higher classes and pay more. On the Maine Turnpike, Class 1 is two-axle, four-tire vehicles such as passenger cars, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles, and Class 2 is two-axle, six-tire vehicles such as buses, motor homes and dual-wheel pickups.6
Payment method. E-ZPass usually costs less than cash. On the Ohio Turnpike, a Class 1 trip from Toll Plaza 49 to Toll Plaza 211 costs $13.75 with E-ZPass and $20.00 in cash.1
Time of day. Some roads charge less at quiet times. On the New Jersey Turnpike, peak hours are 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on weekdays, and all day on Saturday and Sunday, based on when you enter.2 A Class 1 car from Interchange 1 to Interchange 18W pays $21.88 with E-ZPass and $16.41 with NJ E-ZPass off-peak.2
Toll plazas. The Garden State Parkway charges at 11 main-line barrier plazas and 23 ramp plazas.3 At most of those barrier plazas a Class 1 car pays $2.40 in cash.3 With E-ZPass it pays $2.25.7 Heavy trucks registered at 10,000 lbs or more can get an E-ZPass off-peak discount on the Parkway.4
When you plan a road trip, tolls and fuel are two of the main costs. Our Fuel Cost Calculator estimates what you will spend on gas, and our Gas Mileage Calculator shows your vehicle's efficiency.
