Introduction

This McDonald's Nutrition Calculator helps you see exactly what is in your meal before you order. Pick items from the full McDonald's menu, and the tool adds up calories, protein, carbs, fat, sodium, and other nutrients for you.

You can filter by diet type like vegan, vegetarian, keto, or gluten-friendly. You can also exclude common allergens such as dairy, soy, eggs, and nuts to find safer choices. A built-in meal generator suggests combos that fit your calorie and protein goals.

Each meal you build gets a health grade from A to F, a full nutrition facts label, and a macro breakdown chart. You can set personal daily targets and track how one meal stacks up against them. You can also compare two menu items side by side to pick the better option.

All nutrition data is based on standard McDonald's recipes. Use this calculator to make smarter, more informed choices the next time you visit McDonald's.

McDonald's Nutrition: What You Need to Know

McDonald's serves millions of meals every day. Each menu item has a different amount of calories, protein, carbs, fat, and sodium. Knowing these numbers helps you make smarter choices about what you eat.

Calories tell you how much energy a food gives your body. Most adults need about 2,000 calories per day, though your exact number depends on your age, size, and activity level.1 A single McDonald's meal can range from under 300 calories to well over 1,000, depending on what you pick. Burgers, fries, and shakes tend to be higher in calories, while items like apple slices, side salads, and plain grilled options are lower.

Protein helps build and repair your muscles. Carbs give you quick energy. Fat gives you long-lasting energy but is easy to overeat. Sodium is salt, and too much of it can raise blood pressure over time. The FDA recommends no more than 2,300 mg of sodium per day, but many fast food meals come close to that limit in just one sitting.2

McDonald's food is also made in shared kitchens. This means items may come in contact with common allergens like milk, eggs, wheat, soy, fish, tree nuts, peanuts, sesame, and shellfish, even if those ingredients are not listed in the recipe.

You do not have to avoid McDonald's to eat well. The key is to pay attention to portion sizes, balance your meal with protein and vegetables when you can, and watch out for high amounts of sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar. Small swaps, like choosing water instead of soda or picking a smaller size of fries, can make a real difference in your daily nutrition.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add the same menu item more than once?

Yes. If you add an item that is already in your meal, the calculator increases the quantity by one. You can also use the + and − buttons to change the quantity of any item in your meal.

What does the health grade mean?

The health grade rates your meal from A to F based on a 100-point score. It adds penalties for high sodium, saturated fat, sugar, and calories. It adds bonuses for protein and fiber. An A or B means your meal is well balanced. A D or F means there is room to improve.

What is the % Daily Value shown next to each nutrient?

% Daily Value tells you how much of a nutrient one meal gives you compared to a full day's needs. It is based on a 2,000 calorie diet.1 If a value is 5% or less, that is a little. If it is 15% or more, that is a lot.

What does Gluten-Friendly mean?

Gluten-Friendly means the item does not list gluten as one of its allergens. It does not mean the item is certified gluten-free. Cross-contact with gluten can happen in McDonald's kitchens.

Can I compare two menu items side by side?

Yes. Click the "Compare Items" button in the filter bar, check exactly two items, then click "Compare Now." A table shows each nutrient for both items with arrows that tell you which one is higher or lower.

How many calories are in a Big Mac meal?

A Big Mac (590 cal) with Medium French Fries (320 cal) and a Medium Coca-Cola (210 cal) totals about 1,120 calories. That is 56% of a 2,000 calorie daily reference.

What is the lowest calorie item on the McDonald's menu?

Apple Slices at 15 calories and a Side Salad at 15 calories are the lowest calorie items. Among drinks, Dasani Water and Diet Coke have zero calories.

Which McDonald's item has the most protein?

The Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese has 48 grams of protein per sandwich. The 20-piece Chicken McNuggets has 46 grams of protein. Both are strong choices if you want high protein.

Are McDonald's fries gluten-free?

No. McDonald's French Fries list gluten as an allergen. They are cooked in shared fryers and contain wheat-based ingredients. If you avoid gluten, the calculator will hide fries when you turn on the Gluten allergen filter.

What vegan options does McDonald's have?

The calculator marks Apple Slices, Side Salad, Dasani Water, Coca-Cola, Sprite, Diet Coke, Orange Juice, Sweet Tea, and Unsweetened Iced Tea as vegan. Use the Vegan filter to see only these items.
