Copper weight depends on three things: the shape of the piece, its dimensions, and the grade of copper used. Each copper alloy has a known density, which tells you how heavy a set volume of that metal is. Once you know the volume and the density, you multiply them together to get the weight.

The basic formula for copper weight is:

Weight = Volume × Density

Volume is the amount of space the copper piece takes up, measured in cubic centimeters (cm³). Density is how many grams fit in one cubic centimeter of that copper alloy. Why Copper Grade Matters

Not all copper weighs the same. Pure copper grades like C10100, C10200, and C11000 share a density of 8.94 g/cm³. But copper alloys mixed with other metals can differ. What copper grade should I pick if I don't know which alloy I have?

Why does C17200 Beryllium Copper weigh less than C11000?

C17200 contains about 2% beryllium, which is a very light element. This lowers the overall density to 8.26 g/cm³ compared to 8.94 g/cm³ for pure copper grades. A lower density means the same size piece weighs less.

Can I use different units for different dimensions on the same piece?

What is the difference between a pipe and a round tube in this calculator?

Why does the calculator ask for across flats instead of across corners for hex bars?

Across flats (AF) is the standard way hex bar stock is measured and sold. It is the shortest distance between two opposite flat sides. The volume formula for a regular hexagon uses this measurement directly, so it gives you an accurate result that matches how the material is specified on supplier catalogs.

Does the number of pieces affect the weight per piece?

No. The weight per piece stays the same no matter how many pieces you enter. The number of pieces only changes the total weight, which equals the single-piece weight multiplied by the number of pieces.

Can I use this calculator for copper alloys not listed in the dropdown?
