How do I calculate the weight of a round plate?

Select the Circular shape option. Then choose whether to enter the diameter or radius. Type in the value, set the thickness, and the calculator finds the weight automatically using the formula Weight = π × radius² × thickness × density.

What if my material is not on the list?

Choose Custom / Other Material from the material dropdown. Then type in the density of your material in kg/m³ in the density field. You can find density values on material data sheets or reference tables.

How do I find the weight of an oddly shaped plate?

Select the Custom Area shape option. Then type in the total surface area of your plate in the unit squared that you selected. The calculator will use that area along with thickness and density to find the weight.

Why is the density of steel listed as 7850 kg/m³?

7850 kg/m³ is the standard density for carbon steel used in engineering references. Stainless steel and other steel alloys have slightly different densities. The calculator includes separate options for Stainless Steel 304 (8000 kg/m³) and Stainless Steel 316 (8030 kg/m³).

Does the thickness use the same unit as the dimensions?

Yes. The Dimension Unit you select applies to all size inputs including length, width, side, diameter, radius, and thickness. If you set the unit to millimeters, enter your thickness in millimeters too.

How do I calculate the weight of an aluminum plate?

Select Aluminum (2700 kg/m³) from the material list. Enter the shape, dimensions, and thickness. The calculator uses aluminum's density of 2700 kg/m³ to give you the plate weight. For specific alloys, choose Aluminum 6061 or Aluminum 7075.

What is the formula for rectangular plate weight?

The formula is Weight = Length × Width × Thickness × Density. All dimensions must be in the same unit. The calculator converts everything to meters and kg/m³ internally to give you an accurate result.
