How is this calculated?

Introduction

Every time you level up in Elden Ring, the rune cost goes up. At low levels, you only need a few hundred runes. By the time you hit level 150 or higher, each level costs hundreds of thousands. Knowing these numbers helps you plan your build and farm smarter.

This Elden Ring Level Calculator does three things. First, it tells you the exact rune cost to go from your current level to the next one. Second, it adds up the total runes you need to go from any starting level to any target level, with a full level-by-level breakdown and chart. Third, it includes a reverse lookup tool — enter the runes you got from killing another player in PvP, and it estimates what level they were. If you also want to track your kill-to-death performance across PvP sessions, try our KD Calculator.

The calculator uses the known Elden Ring leveling formula: 0.02 × L³ + 3.06 × L² + 105.6 × L − 895, where L is the level you are leaving. It covers every level from 1 all the way up to the max level of 713. Results update instantly as you type, so there is no waiting around.

How to Use Our Elden Ring Level Calculator

This Elden Ring rune calculator has three modes. Pick a tab, enter your numbers, and get instant results. Here is what each mode needs from you.

Single Level-Up

Use this mode to find out how many runes it costs to gain one level in Elden Ring.

Current Level: Type in your character's level right now. It must be a number from 1 to 712. The calculator will show you the exact rune cost to reach the next level.

Level Range Total

Use this mode to find the total runes needed to go from one level to another in Elden Ring.

Starting Level: Enter the level you are starting from. This must be a number from 1 to 712.

Target Level: Enter the level you want to reach. This must be higher than your starting level, up to 713. The calculator will show you the total rune cost, a level-by-level table, and a chart of how the cost grows.

Reverse Lookup

Use this mode to estimate another player's level based on the runes you got from killing them in PvP.

Runes Received from Player Kill: Enter the number of runes you earned after defeating another player. This can be any number from 0 to 1,337,154.

Your Role: Choose your multiplayer role at the time of the kill — Host of Fingers, Summoned Phantom, or Invader.

Defeated Player's Role: Choose the role of the player you killed — Host of Fingers, Summoned Phantom, or Invader. The calculator uses both roles to apply the correct multiplier and estimate the defeated player's level.

Elden Ring Level Calculator — Rune Costs Explained

In Elden Ring, you spend runes to level up your character. Runes are the main currency in the game. You earn them by defeating enemies, selling items, and using consumable rune items. Every time you level up, you add one point to a stat like Vigor, Strength, or Dexterity. The cost in runes goes up with each level, and it rises fast. Early levels are cheap, but high levels can cost hundreds of thousands of runes for a single level-up.

This calculator uses the exact rune cost formula from Elden Ring to give you accurate numbers. It has three modes. Single Level-Up tells you how many runes you need for your next level. Level Range Total adds up every rune cost between two levels so you can plan your build. Reverse Lookup estimates another player's level based on the runes you received from defeating them in PvP. That mode accounts for multiplayer role modifiers — hosts, phantoms, and invaders each drop different rune amounts. You can also use our Win Rate Calculator to keep tabs on your PvP success over time.

Most players aim for level 120 or 150 for online PvP, since these are the most popular matchmaking brackets. Stat soft caps start around level 60 for individual stats, which means each point you add gives less benefit after that threshold. The maximum level in Elden Ring is 713, which requires putting every stat at 99. Reaching max level takes over 1.6 billion total runes. If you enjoy planning progression in other games, our OSRS Skill Calculator handles experience-to-level calculations for Old School RuneScape, and our Pokemon Damage Calculator helps optimize builds in competitive Pokémon.

Whether you are planning a new build, farming runes for your next milestone, or trying to figure out how strong an invader was, this tool gives you the numbers you need in seconds. Make sure your setup can handle the game smoothly too — our FPS Calculator can help you estimate frame rates for your hardware.

Frequently asked questions

What is the max level in Elden Ring?

The max level in Elden Ring is 713. You reach it by raising every stat to 99. It takes over 1.6 billion total runes to get there from level 1.

What formula does this calculator use?

It uses the known Elden Ring leveling formula: 0.02 × L³ + 3.06 × L² + 105.6 × L − 895, where L is the level you are leaving. The result is rounded to the nearest whole number.

How many runes does it cost to go from level 1 to level 150?

It costs roughly 57.5 million runes to go from level 1 to level 150. Use the Level Range Total tab to see the exact number and a full breakdown for every level step.

What is a soft cap in Elden Ring?

A soft cap is the point where adding more points to a stat gives less benefit. In Elden Ring, most stats hit their first soft cap around level 60 for that stat. After that, each point you add does less than before.

How does the reverse lookup mode work?

You enter the runes you got from killing another player in PvP. The tool divides that number by a modifier based on the defeated player's role (host, phantom, or invader). Then it searches a precomputed drop table to estimate what level that player was.

What are the multiplayer role modifiers for rune drops?

When you kill a player, the runes you get depend on their role. A Host of Fingers drops the full amount (×1.0). An Invader drops 80% (×0.8). A Summoned Phantom drops 50% (×0.5).

Why is the reverse lookup an estimate and not exact?

The rune drop formula uses a smooth curve, so two nearby levels can give very similar rune amounts. In-game rounding and other modifiers can also shift the number slightly. The tool gives you the closest match, but it may be off by a level or two.

What is the best level for PvP in Elden Ring?

The most popular PvP brackets are level 120 and level 150. Stopping at one of these levels gives you the best chance of finding other players for duels and invasions.

Does this calculator work for the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC?

Yes. The rune leveling formula is the same in the base game and the DLC. The calculator covers every level from 1 to 713, so it works no matter what content you are playing.

How much does it cost to level up at level 713?

You cannot level up past 713 because it is the max level. The last level-up — going from level 712 to 713 — costs roughly 8.9 million runes.

Do I need to press the Calculate button every time?

No. The results update as you type. The Calculate button is there if you prefer to click it, but the numbers refresh automatically whenever you change an input.

What do the milestone highlights in the breakdown table mean?

Highlighted rows mark well-known Elden Ring milestones. Level 60 is the soft cap zone where stat returns start to drop. Levels 80, 120, and 150 are common PvP meta levels where most players stop for online play.

Why do early levels cost so few runes?

The formula is cubic, which means costs grow slowly at first and then spike fast at higher levels. At level 1, the next level costs only a few hundred runes. By level 500, a single level costs millions.

Can I use this calculator on my phone?

Yes. The calculator is fully responsive. All three tabs, the chart, and the breakdown table work on mobile screens.
