Introduction
The DHL Shipping Calculator shows what DHL Express charges to send a package to or from the United States, using the prices in DHL's 2026 U.S. Service & Rate Guide. Enter where the shipment starts and ends, what it contains, and how much each package weighs and measures, and the tool prices every DHL Express service that runs on that route.
DHL does not price by weight alone. It also looks at how much space a package takes up, called volumetric weight, and charges for whichever is greater. The calculator works out both, adds the packages in the shipment together, and rates the total the way DHL does.
You can compare DHL Express Worldwide with DHL Express 12:00 and DHL Express 9:00 wherever DHL offers them. Shipments to other countries, imports into the United States, and shipments to Puerto Rico and the other U.S. territories DHL serves are all covered. A service that does not run on a route, or that a package is too heavy or too large for, is named along with the reason.
The prices are DHL's published list rates in U.S. dollars. DHL states that they are for information until an account agreement is signed, so a business account may pay less, and customs duties and taxes are extra.1
How to use our DHL Shipping Calculator
Enter the route, the contents and the package details. The calculator shows the billable weight, the DHL zone and the published price of each service, with how that price is built.
Origin Country and Destination Country: Type a country or territory and pick it from the list. DHL's U.S. rates cover shipments leaving the United States, shipments entering it, and shipments from the United States to U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico and Guam.
ZIP / Postal Codes: DHL zones by country, so the postal codes do not change the price here. DHL uses them to decide whether an address is remote and whether 9:00 and 12:00 reach it.
Contents: Choose Goods or Documents. For documents, choose a DHL Express Envelope or other packaging.
Weight per Package: Enter the weight of one package in kilograms or pounds.
Number of Identical Packages: Enter how many packages of that size are in the shipment. DHL rates the total weight of the shipment, so two 5 lb packages are priced as one 10 lb shipment.
Dimensions: Enter the length, width and height of one package in centimeters or inches. They set the volumetric weight and decide whether a package counts as oversize.
Optional Services: Add delivery to a residential address, Saturday delivery or pickup, or Shipment Value Protection, each at DHL's published charge.

DHL Shipping Costs Explained
DHL Express is DHL's time-definite international courier service. For shipments to and from the United States, the price depends on the zone, the billable weight, the service and the surcharges that apply.
Zones
DHL places every country and territory it serves in a lettered rating zone, from Zone A, which is Canada, to Zone N.1 Mexico is Zone B, Germany and the United Kingdom are Zone C, Japan is Zone F and Libya is Zone N.1 An import into the United States uses the zone of the country it comes from.
Billable Weight: Actual vs Volumetric
DHL charges for the greater of the actual weight and the volumetric weight. To find the volumetric weight, multiply the length, height and width of each package in inches, then divide by 139.1 A box 20 inches on every side has a volumetric weight of 57.55 lb, so a 30 lb item in it is billed at 57.55 lb.
For shipments leaving the United States, DHL's rates rise in one-pound steps up to 150 lb. For shipments over 150 lb, the rate is calculated by multiplying the total weight by the zone's rate per pound.1 Imports are priced in half-kilogram steps up to 70 kg, and by the half-kilogram above that.

For a shipment leaving the United States, DHL adds $25.20 to the Worldwide rate for 9:00 and $6.30 for 12:00.1 Neither service reaches every country, and DHL decides by postcode or city whether they reach a particular address.1
Extra Charges to Expect
- Fuel surcharge: a percentage DHL publishes and changes regularly. It is applied to the weight charge of each shipment and any transportation-related surcharges.1
- Handling surcharges: DHL charges $100.00 for a piece over 150 lb, $30.00 for an oversize piece, whose longest side exceeds 40 inches or second-longest side exceeds 32 inches, and $30.00 for a non-conveyable piece, such as one weighing between 56 lbs and 150 lbs.1 Only one of these applies to a piece.1
- Remote areas: $0.50 per pound with a $50.00 minimum when the pickup or delivery location is remote.1
- Elevated-risk and restricted destinations: $30.00 per shipment each, where DHL applies them.1
- Duties and taxes: set by the destination country's government, not by DHL. Our VAT calculator can help estimate them.
Documents vs Goods
Documents are papers with no commercial value, such as contracts and forms. DHL prices them on their own tables up to 4.0 LB leaving the United States and up to 2.0 KG entering it, and a DHL Express Envelope up to 0.625 LB has its own rate.1 Heavier documents are priced with goods.
Size and Weight Limits
DHL Express Worldwide takes pieces up to 150 lb and 48 × 32 × 32 inches, and pallets up to 2,200 lb.1 DHL Express does not accept shipments exceeding 6,600 lb, or containing pieces exceeding 2,200 lb or 118 inches length.1
Ways to Pay Less
- Use the smallest box that protects the item, to keep volumetric weight down.
- Keep each piece within 40 inches on its longest side and 32 inches on the next, to avoid the oversize charge.
- Choose DHL Express Worldwide when end-of-day delivery is enough; 12:00 and 9:00 cost more.
- Send papers in a DHL Express Envelope when they fit. Its rate is below the 1 lb documents rate in every zone.
