Introduction
Use this free UPS shipping calculator to estimate how much it will cost to send a package with UPS. Just enter where your package starts, where it's going, and how big and heavy it is. The tool compares rates across all major UPS services — from UPS Ground to Next Day Air — so you can pick the best option for your budget and timeline.
The calculator figures out your shipping zone, checks whether actual weight or dimensional weight applies, and adds common surcharges like residential delivery and fuel fees. You'll see a side-by-side breakdown of every UPS service with estimated costs, transit times, and surcharge details in seconds.
This tool covers eight UPS domestic services: UPS Next Day Air Early A.M., UPS Next Day Air, UPS Next Day Air Saver, UPS 2nd Day Air A.M., UPS 2nd Day Air, UPS 3 Day Select, UPS Ground, and UPS SurePost. It supports up to five packages at once and works with both imperial and metric units. Keep in mind that these are estimates based on published retail rates. Your actual cost may differ based on negotiated discounts or rate changes. If you want to compare carriers, try our USPS Shipping Calculator or FedEx Shipping Calculator as well.
How to Use Our UPS Shipping Calculator
Enter your shipment details below to get estimated rates for eight UPS shipping services. The calculator will show you the cost, transit time, zone, and surcharges for each service so you can pick the best option.
Origin Country: Select the country you are shipping from. This tool supports shipments from the United States and Puerto Rico.
Origin City: Type the name of the city where your package starts its journey.
Origin ZIP Code: Enter the 5-digit ZIP code of your shipping location. This helps determine your UPS shipping zone.
Destination Country: Select the country you are shipping to. You can choose any country for an international estimate or a U.S. location for domestic rates.
Destination City: Type the name of the city where your package is going.
Destination ZIP Code: Enter the ZIP or postal code of the delivery address. The zone is based on the distance between your origin and destination ZIP codes. You can use our Distance Calculator to get a sense of how far apart two locations are.
Destination Address Type: Choose whether you are shipping to a home or a business. UPS charges an extra fee for residential deliveries.
Unit System: Pick Imperial (pounds and inches) or Metric (kilograms and centimeters) based on how you measure your packages.
Number of Packages: Select how many packages you are sending in this shipment, from 1 to 5.
Packaging Type: Choose "Your Packaging" if you use your own box, or select a UPS packaging option like UPS Letter, Express Box, Tube, or Pak. Click "Apply" to lock in your choice. Fixed UPS packaging types do not need dimensions entered.
Actual Weight: Enter the weight of each package. This is required for every package in your shipment.
Dimensions (Length, Width, Height): Enter the size of each package if you use your own box. This is optional but recommended. UPS uses dimensional weight when it is higher than actual weight, so adding dimensions gives you a more accurate estimate. Our Volumetric Weight Calculator can help you understand how dimensional weight is determined, and the Volume Calculator is handy for figuring out the cubic size of your package.
Click Get Rates to see your results. The calculator will display a side-by-side comparison of all eight UPS services, a billable weight summary, your shipping zone, a surcharge breakdown, and a bar chart so you can quickly compare costs.
How UPS Shipping Costs Work
UPS is one of the biggest package delivery companies in the world. When you ship a box with UPS, the price you pay depends on a few key things: how heavy your package is, how big it is, where it's going, and how fast you need it to get there.
Weight and Dimensional Weight
UPS does not just look at how much your box weighs on a scale. They also check how much space it takes up. This is called dimensional weight. To find it, you multiply the length, width, and height of your box in inches, then divide by 139. UPS charges you based on whichever number is higher — the actual weight or the dimensional weight. This means a large but light box can cost more than you expect. Use our Volumetric Weight Calculator to quickly check whether your package's dimensional weight exceeds its actual weight before you ship.
UPS Zones
UPS splits the country into shipping zones numbered 2 through 8. Your zone is based on the distance between the sender's ZIP code and the receiver's ZIP code. A short trip across town might be Zone 2. A long trip across the country could be Zone 7 or 8. Higher zones cost more because the package travels farther.
UPS Service Levels
UPS offers several speed options. UPS Next Day Air Early A.M. is the fastest and most expensive. It delivers by 8:00 or 9:30 AM the next business day. UPS Ground is the slowest but cheapest option, taking 1 to 5 business days. UPS SurePost is even cheaper — UPS carries the package most of the way, then the local post office delivers it to the door. Pick the service that fits your budget and timeline. Our Business Days Calculator can help you count exactly how many working days until your package arrives, and the Lead Time Calculator is useful if you need to plan shipments around production or order fulfillment schedules.
Common Surcharges
On top of the base rate, UPS adds extra fees in certain cases. If you ship to a home address instead of a business, you pay a residential surcharge. If your package weighs more than 50 pounds, you pay an additional handling fee. Very large packages that measure more than 130 inches around also get a large package surcharge. UPS also adds a fuel surcharge to every shipment. This percentage changes over time based on fuel prices. You can use our Percentage Calculator to figure out the exact dollar amount of any percentage-based surcharge on your shipment.
Tips to Save on UPS Shipping
Use the smallest box that fits your item. This keeps dimensional weight low and can save you money. Ship to a business address when you can to avoid the residential fee. Choose slower services like UPS Ground or SurePost if your delivery is not urgent. And always compare rates across service levels before you ship. For larger or heavier shipments, our Freight Class Calculator can help you determine whether freight shipping might be a more cost-effective option. You should also compare UPS rates against other carriers using our USPS Shipping Calculator and FedEx Shipping Calculator to make sure you are getting the best deal.
