How to use our Sun Moon Rising Calculator

Birth Time: Pick the hour, minute, and AM or PM from your birth certificate. Try to be exact, because the Rising sign moves about one degree every four minutes. If your record uses a 24-hour clock, the military time calculator makes the switch simple.
Unknown Birth Time: Check this box if you do not know your birth time. You will still get your Sun sign and Moon sign, but not your Rising sign, Midheaven, or houses.
Birth City or Town: Start typing your birth city, then click a city from the list. This sets your latitude, longitude, and time zone. Use the X button to clear it and try again.
UTC Offset (hours): This fills in on its own from your city and date, including daylight saving time. Change it only if you know the right offset, and use a minus sign for places west of Greenwich. It stands for your outer style: how you act around new people, your first impression, and even your looks. This is the most time-sensitive of the three. The Rising sign changes about every two hours, and it shifts one degree every four minutes. A gap of even 15 minutes can change your answer, so an exact birth time and city are both needed. Midheaven (MC)
The Midheaven is the highest point of the sky at your birth. In astrology it points to your career, goals, and public name. Like the Rising sign, it needs a birth time and place.
Why Birth Time and Place Matter
The Sun and Moon are found using the date and time only. The Rising sign and Midheaven also need your latitude and longitude, because the sky looks different from different spots on Earth. Your local clock time is changed into Universal Time using the UTC offset for your birth city and date, including daylight saving time. Behind the scenes, that moment is turned into a Julian Day number, the same count used by the Julian Date Calculator.
