The calculator has two modes. Travel Mode lets you plan a road trip or any journey by car, bus, or bike. Choosing a Mode

Travel Mode Instructions

Unit System: Pick Imperial (miles, MPH) or Metric (kilometers, KPH) from the dropdown.

Time Format: Choose 12-hour or 24-hour clock for how times are shown in your results.

Speed Entry Method: Pick "Speed" to type a speed like 60 MPH, or pick "Pace" to enter time per mile or kilometer. If you need help finding your pace, try our Pace Calculator.

Departure Time Zone: Select the time zone where your trip starts. If you need to compare time zones, our Time Zone Calculator can help.

Arrival Time Zone: Select the time zone where your trip ends. This matters if you cross time zones.

Calculation Type: Pick what you want to find. "Find Arrival Time" tells you when you will get there. "Find Required Speed" tells you how fast to drive. "Find Departure Time" tells you when to leave.

Total Distance: Type the total distance of your trip in miles or kilometers. You can use a Distance Calculator to find the distance between two points.

Average Speed: Type your expected average speed. If you chose Pace mode, enter minutes and seconds per mile or kilometer instead. Our Speed Calculator can help you determine your average speed.

Departure Date & Time: Enter the date and time you plan to leave. Click "Use current date & time" to fill in right now.

Target Arrival Date & Time: Enter the date and time you want to arrive by. This field shows up when you pick "Find Required Speed" or "Find Departure Time." Use our Date Calculator if you need help picking a target date.

Number of Planned Stops: Pick how many stops you expect to make during your trip.

Average Stop Duration: Set how long each stop will last in hours and minutes.

Traffic / Delay Buffer: Drag the slider to add extra time for traffic or delays. The percentage is added to your drive time.

Journey Segments: Turn this on to split your trip into parts with different speeds. Click "Add Segment" and enter a name, distance, and speed for each part. This replaces the single distance and speed fields.

Calculate / Reset: Click "Calculate" to see your results. Click "Reset" to clear all fields and start over.

Task Progress Mode Instructions

Total Items: Type the total number of items or tasks in your job.

Completed Items: Type how many items you have finished so far.

Time Unit: Pick whether your elapsed time is in seconds, minutes, or hours.

Reference Point: Enter the date and time when work started. Click "Use now" to set it to the current time.

What Is an Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA)?

An estimated time of arrival, or ETA, is the expected date and time you will reach your destination or finish a task. It is calculated using simple math: you divide the total distance by your average speed to find how long the trip will take. Then you add that travel time to your departure time. How Travel Time Is Calculated

The basic formula for travel time is Time = Distance ÷ Speed. If you drive 300 miles at 60 miles per hour, your drive time is 5 hours. But real trips are rarely that simple. You need to stop for gas, food, or rest. Traffic can slow you down. You might cross time zones, which shifts the clock forward or backward by one hour. Why Time Zones Matter

When you travel across time zones, the clock changes even though no extra time has passed. For example, if you drive east from Chicago to New York, you lose one hour because New York is one time zone ahead. This means your arrival time on the clock is one hour later than you might expect. Your ETA is only as good as the numbers you put in. Use a realistic average speed, not your top speed. Add extra time for traffic, bad weather, or construction. The traffic delay buffer adds extra time to your drive time to account for traffic, road work, or bad weather. For example, a 10% buffer on a 5-hour drive adds 30 minutes. Drag the slider to set a value from 0% to 50%.

What are journey segments and when should I use them?

Journey segments let you split your trip into parts with different speed limits. Use them when part of your drive is on a highway at 70 MPH and another part is through a city at 35 MPH. The calculator finds the total time by adding up each segment.

How many journey segments can I add?

You can add up to 10 segments. Each segment has its own name, distance, and speed.

What does the pace entry method do?

Pace entry lets you type how long it takes to travel one mile or one kilometer, in minutes and seconds. This is useful for runners, cyclists, or walkers who think in pace instead of speed. The calculator converts pace to speed automatically.

How does the calculator handle time zones?

You pick a departure time zone and an arrival time zone. The calculator adjusts the clock so your ETA shows the correct local time at your destination. This matters on long trips where you cross one or more time zones.

What does Find Required Speed do?

It tells you how fast you need to travel to arrive by a specific time. Enter your distance, departure time, and target arrival time. The calculator divides the distance by the available time to find the speed you need.

What does Find Departure Time do?

It tells you when you need to leave to arrive at your target time. Enter your distance, speed, stops, and target arrival time. The calculator subtracts the total trip time from the arrival time to find your departure time.

Does the calculator account for stops?

Yes. You can set the number of planned stops and the average length of each stop. The calculator adds total stop time to your drive time to give you a more accurate ETA.

What happens if my trip crosses midnight?

The calculator shows a warning message telling you that your arrival is on a different calendar day than your departure. The ETA still displays the correct date and time.

How does Task Progress Mode calculate the remaining time?

It divides the number of completed items by the elapsed time to find your processing rate. Then it divides the remaining items by that rate. The result is how much more time the task will take.

What is the reference point in Task Progress Mode?

The reference point is the date and time when you started working. The calculator adds the estimated remaining time to this point to show when the task will be done. Click "Use now" to set it to the current time.

Can I use this calculator for walking or biking trips?

Yes. Enter your walking or biking speed instead of a driving speed. You can also use the pace entry method, which is common for runners and cyclists. The math works the same for any mode of travel.

Why does the calculator say insufficient data in Task Progress Mode?

This message appears when you have completed zero items or entered zero elapsed time. The calculator needs at least one completed item and some elapsed time to figure out your processing rate.

Does the calculator save my inputs?

No. Your inputs are not saved. If you refresh the page or close your browser, the fields reset to their default values.

What formula does the calculator use for travel time?

The basic formula is Travel Time = Distance ÷ Speed. The calculator then adds stop time and any traffic buffer to get the total trip duration. Finally, it adds the total trip duration to your departure time to find the ETA.
