Introduction

Every Pokémon has hidden stats called Individual Values (IVs). These secret numbers decide how strong your Pokémon really is. Two Pokémon of the same species can have very different power levels because of their IVs. Knowing your Pokémon's IVs helps you pick the best ones for battles, raids, and PVP.

This Pokémon IV Calculator works for both Pokémon GO and main series games like Scarlet, Violet, Sword, and Shield. In the Pokémon GO tab, enter your Pokémon's CP, HP, Stardust cost, and appraisal details. The tool then finds every possible IV combination that matches your inputs. You can even add power-up data to narrow results down further. In the Main Series tab, enter your Pokémon's level, nature, observed stats, and EVs to calculate each stat's IV range.

Whether you are building a Great League PVP team in Pokémon GO or breeding competitive Pokémon in the main games, this calculator gives you the exact numbers you need to make smart choices fast. If you also want to figure out how much damage your moves deal, check out our Pokémon Damage Calculator for detailed battle math.

How to Use Our Pokémon IV Calculator

Enter your Pokémon's stats from the game, and this calculator will show you its hidden Individual Values (IVs). IVs are secret numbers that make each Pokémon stronger or weaker. Pick the Pokémon GO tab or the Main Series tab depending on which game you play.

Pokémon GO Mode

Pokémon Species: Type your Pokémon's name into the search box. Pick the correct one from the list that appears.

CP (Combat Power): Enter the CP number shown on your Pokémon's screen in Pokémon GO.

HP (Hit Points): Enter the HP number shown on your Pokémon's screen. You can find this below the health bar.

Stardust Cost: Choose the amount of Stardust needed to power up your Pokémon. This helps the calculator figure out your Pokémon's level. If you don't know it, leave it set to "Unknown."

Just Caught / Not Powered Up: Check this box if you have not powered up this Pokémon yet. This cuts the possible results in half and gives you a more accurate answer.

Overall Star Rating: Open the appraisal screen in Pokémon GO and pick the star rating your team leader gives. It ranges from 0 stars to Wonder (a perfect 100%).

Best Stat(s): Check the stats that your team leader says are the best. If the leader highlights more than one stat as equal, check all of them.

Best Stat Value Range: Pick the bar range your team leader shows for the best stat. A full orange bar means 15 (Max).

Power-Up Narrowing: Click "Add Power-Up Data" if you want even fewer results. Power up your Pokémon once, then enter the new CP, HP, and Stardust cost. You can add more than one power-up to narrow it down further.

Calculate IVs: Press the Calculate button to see all possible IV combinations. The results table shows each possible Attack, Defense, and Stamina IV along with the IV percentage and quality rating. A bar chart below shows how many results fall into Perfect, Great, and Good categories.

Main Series Mode (Gen 3–9)

Pokémon Species: Type your Pokémon's name and pick it from the list. This loads the correct base stats.

Level: Enter your Pokémon's current level, from 1 to 100. You can find this on the summary screen in your game.

Nature: Choose your Pokémon's nature from the dropdown. Natures boost one stat by 10% and lower another by 10%, so picking the right one matters for an accurate result.

Mechanics: Leave this set to "Gen 3–9" for all modern Pokémon games. IVs range from 0 to 31 in these games.

Observed Stats: Enter each stat number exactly as it appears on your Pokémon's summary screen. Fill in HP, Attack, Defense, Sp. Atk, Sp. Def, and Speed.

EVs (Effort Values): Enter the EVs your Pokémon has earned for each stat, from 0 to 252. If you haven't trained it at all, leave every EV at 0. Wrong EV numbers will give wrong IV results.

Calculate IVs: Press the Calculate button to see the possible IV range for each stat. The results table shows every matching IV, a best guess, and the total IV percentage. A bar chart below displays the best guess IV for each stat so you can see your Pokémon's strengths at a glance.

What Are Pokémon IVs?

IVs stand for Individual Values. They are hidden numbers that every Pokémon has. These numbers affect how strong your Pokémon's stats are. Two Pokémon of the same species and level can have different stats because of their IVs. Think of IVs like a Pokémon's natural talent — some are just born stronger than others.

IVs in Pokémon GO

In Pokémon GO, each Pokémon has three IV stats: Attack, Defense, and Stamina (HP). Each one ranges from 0 to 15. A perfect Pokémon has 15 in all three, giving it a total IV percentage of 100%. The in-game appraisal feature gives you clues about your Pokémon's IVs using star ratings and bar graphs. IVs matter a lot in PVP battles, raids, and Gym fights. For PVP leagues like Great League and Ultra League, the best IVs are often not 15/15/15 — instead, you usually want low Attack and high Defense and Stamina to fit under the CP cap. Once you know your IVs, you can use our Pokémon Damage Calculator to simulate how those stats translate into actual battle damage.

IVs in Main Series Games (Gen 3–9)

In the main Pokémon games like Scarlet, Violet, Sword, and Shield, IVs range from 0 to 31 for six stats: HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed. Higher IVs mean higher stats. Your Pokémon's nature also changes stats by boosting one by 10% and lowering another by 10%. For competitive battling, trainers breed or use items like Bottle Caps to get the best IVs possible. A perfect 31 IV in every stat gives you the strongest version of that Pokémon. If you're interested in the genetics behind breeding, our Punnett Square Calculator explains how inheritance works — a concept that parallels how Pokémon pass down IVs through breeding.

Why IVs Matter for PVP

Knowing your Pokémon's IVs helps you pick the best ones for battles. In Pokémon GO PVP, even a small IV difference can decide who wins a close fight. In the main series, competitive players always aim for ideal IVs to get every edge they can. This calculator takes the information you can see — like CP, HP, level, nature, and stats — and works backward to figure out the hidden IV numbers. Tracking your battle performance is similar to how competitive players in other games monitor their stats — if you play shooters, our KD Calculator helps you measure your kill-to-death ratio, while our Win Rate Calculator can help you track your overall PVP win percentage across seasons. Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between IVs in Pokémon GO and the main series games?

In Pokémon GO, each Pokémon has three IVs — Attack, Defense, and Stamina — and each ranges from 0 to 15. In the main series games (Gen 3–9), there are six IVs — HP, Attack, Defense, Sp. Atk, Sp. Def, and Speed — and each ranges from 0 to 31. This calculator handles both systems in separate tabs.

Why does the calculator show multiple IV combinations instead of one answer?

Different IV and level combinations can produce the same CP and HP. The calculator shows every combination that matches your inputs. To narrow the results, add your Stardust cost, appraisal details, and power-up data. The more info you give, the fewer combinations remain.

How do I get only one IV result in Pokémon GO mode?

Enter as much detail as possible. Select the correct Stardust cost, check Just Caught if the Pokémon hasn't been powered up, fill in the star rating, pick the best stat(s) and stat value range, and add power-up data if you can. Each piece of information removes wrong matches until ideally only one is left.

What does the Just Caught checkbox do?

A Pokémon you just caught is always at a whole number level (like 20, not 20.5). Checking this box removes all half-level possibilities, which cuts the results roughly in half and gives you a more accurate answer.

How does Power-Up Narrowing work?

When you power up a Pokémon, its CP and HP change based on its IVs. By entering the new CP, HP, and Stardust cost after a power-up, the calculator checks which IV combinations still match at the new level. Wrong combinations get removed, leaving you with fewer and more accurate results.

Why are 15/15/15 IVs not always best for PVP in Pokémon GO?

In capped leagues like Great League (1500 CP) and Ultra League (2500 CP), a Pokémon with lower Attack IV can reach a higher level before hitting the CP cap. Higher level means more total stats. So the best PVP IVs are often something like 0/15/15 (low Attack, high Defense and Stamina) rather than 15/15/15.

What does the IV percentage mean?

The IV percentage shows how close your Pokémon's IVs are to the maximum. In Pokémon GO, a perfect Pokémon (15/15/15) is 100%. In main series games, a perfect Pokémon (31 in all six stats) is also 100%. Higher percentages mean stronger stats overall.

What do the quality labels Perfect, Great, and Good mean?

Perfect means 100% IVs. Great means 80% to 99%. Good means below 80%. These labels help you quickly see how strong each possible IV combination is without reading every number.

How do I find my Pokémon's appraisal in Pokémon GO?

Open your Pokémon's page, tap the menu button (three lines), and select Appraise. Your team leader will show a star rating (0 to 3 stars or Wonder) and highlight the best stat(s) with bar graphs. Enter these details into the calculator for better results.

Why does the calculator say no combinations match my inputs?

This usually means one of your inputs is wrong. Double-check your CP, HP, Stardust cost, star rating, best stats, and stat value range. Even one wrong number can eliminate all valid combinations. Also make sure you picked the correct Pokémon species.

What are EVs and why do I need them for the main series calculator?

EVs (Effort Values) are bonus stat points your Pokémon earns from battling or using vitamins. Each stat can have up to 252 EVs. The calculator needs accurate EV numbers because EVs and IVs both affect your final stats. If you enter wrong EVs, you will get wrong IV results.

How does nature affect IV calculations in the main series?

A nature boosts one stat by 10% and lowers another by 10%. Some natures like Hardy are neutral and change nothing. Picking the wrong nature will give you incorrect IV results because the stat formula uses the nature multiplier. Check your Pokémon's summary screen to find its nature.

Can I use this calculator for Pokémon Legends Arceus or Let's Go?

The main series tab uses the Gen 3–9 stat formula, which works for games like Sword, Shield, Scarlet, Violet, and older games back to Ruby and Sapphire. Legends Arceus and Let's Go use different stat systems, so results may not be accurate for those games.

What Pokémon species are included in this calculator?

The calculator includes a curated set of popular and competitive Pokémon for both Pokémon GO and main series modes. It covers fan favorites like Dragonite, Mewtwo, Garchomp, Tyranitar, Metagross, and many more. If your Pokémon is not listed, the tool cannot calculate its IVs.

What is the best IV for each stat in Pokémon GO?

The maximum IV for each stat in Pokémon GO is 15. A Pokémon with 15 Attack, 15 Defense, and 15 Stamina has perfect IVs. However, for PVP leagues with CP caps, a lower Attack IV is often better because it lets your Pokémon reach a higher level and gain more total stats.

Does the Stardust cost tell me my Pokémon's exact level?

Not exactly. Each Stardust cost covers four possible levels (two whole and two half levels). For example, 2500 Stardust means level 19, 19.5, 20, or 20.5. Combining Stardust cost with the Just Caught checkbox and other inputs helps the calculator pin down the exact level.

Can I press Enter to calculate instead of clicking the button?

Yes. When your cursor is in any input field, press Enter on your keyboard and the calculator will run automatically. This works in both the Pokémon GO tab and the Main Series tab.

What does the bar chart below the results show?

In Pokémon GO mode, the chart shows how many IV combinations fall into Perfect, Great, and Good categories. In Main Series mode, the chart displays the best guess IV for each of the six stats so you can quickly see which stats are strongest.

How do I reset the calculator to start over?

Click the Reset button next to the Calculate button. This clears all your inputs and returns everything to the default values. Any power-up rows you added will also be removed.

Why does the main series calculator show a range instead of one IV?

At certain levels and EV values, multiple IVs produce the same final stat. For example, an IV of 30 and 31 might both give the same number. To narrow it down, try checking your Pokémon at a higher level or use the in-game IV checker (Judge function) to confirm.
