Introduction

The Days Since Calculator counts the exact number of days between any two dates. Pick a past date, and it tells you how many days have passed since then. You can also switch to Days Until mode to find out how many days are left before a future date — or use our dedicated Days Until Calculator for countdowns. It works for birthdays, holidays, deadlines, historical events, or any date you care about.

This tool breaks your result down into weeks, months, and years so you can see the full picture. Turn on Business Days Only to skip weekends in the count. You also get a step-by-step solution that shows exactly how the math works. Just enter your dates, hit Calculate, and get your answer in seconds.

How to Use Our Days Since Calculator

Enter two dates below to find out how many days have passed between them or how many days remain until a future date. The calculator will show you a full breakdown in days, weeks, months, and years.

Calculation Mode: Pick "Days Since" to count how many days have passed since a past date. Pick "Days Until" to count how many days are left until a future date. If you frequently count down to upcoming events, our Days Until Calculator is built specifically for that.

Start Date: Enter the earlier date you want to count from. For example, a birthday, a holiday, or any date in the past. If you want to find out someone's exact age from their birthday, try the Age Calculator.

End Date: Enter the later date you want to count to. You can click the "Today" button to quickly set this to today's date.

Business Days Only: Turn this on if you only want to count weekdays. This removes all Saturdays and Sundays from the total. For more advanced business day calculations — like adding a specific number of business days to a date — check out our Business Days Calculator.

Creative Mode: Turn this on to see your result written out as a full sentence with extra detail.

Click Calculate to see your results. Click Reset to clear everything and start over.

What Does "Days Since" Mean?

"Days since" is simply the number of days that have passed between a past date and today. For example, if your birthday was 30 days ago, then it has been 30 days since your birthday. You can also count days until a future date, like a holiday or a big event. This is sometimes called a day count or date difference. For a broader set of date math options — including adding or subtracting days from any date — see our Date Calculator.

How to Count Days Between Two Dates

To find the number of days between two dates, you start at the earlier date and count each day until you reach the later date. This sounds easy for short gaps, but it gets tricky with longer time spans. Months have different lengths — some have 28, 29, 30, or 31 days. Leap years add an extra day to February every four years. That is why people use a calculator instead of counting by hand. If you need the exact duration between two dates broken into hours, minutes, and seconds, our Date Duration Calculator provides that level of detail.

Calendar Days vs. Business Days

Calendar days include every single day — weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Business days (also called working days) only count Monday through Friday. Weekends are skipped. Business day counts are useful for shipping estimates, work deadlines, and legal timelines. A span of 14 calendar days, for example, is only 10 business days. Our Business Days Calculator lets you add or subtract a set number of business days from any date, which is handy for figuring out delivery windows or contract deadlines. If you need to track actual hours worked across those days, the Work Hours Calculator can help.

Common Reasons to Count Days

People count days between dates for many reasons. Some popular ones include:

  • Tracking milestones — like how many days since you started a new habit, job, or relationship.
  • Counting down — finding how many days are left until a vacation, graduation, or due date. You can use the Days Until Calculator to set up quick countdowns to any future date.
  • Project planning — figuring out how many working days you have to finish a task. The Lead Time Calculator is useful when you also need to factor in production or shipping lead times.
  • Personal records — knowing how long it has been since an important life event. The Age Calculator is perfect for tracking exact age down to the day.

Understanding the Results

A day count can be shown in different units. For instance, 365 days is also about 52 weeks, 12 months, or 1 year. Larger numbers can also be broken down into years, months, weeks, and remaining days for a clearer picture. Keep in mind that month and year conversions are approximations because months and years are not all the same length. If you want to count in whole weeks specifically, the Weeks Calculator lets you convert between weeks and days quickly. Frequently asked questions

Is the start date included in the day count?

No. The calculator counts the days after the start date up to and including the end date. So if your start date is June 1 and your end date is June 2, the result is 1 day.

Can I count days between two past dates?

Yes. Enter any two dates you want. They do not have to include today. Just put the earlier date in the Start Date field and the later date in the End Date field.

Does the calculator account for leap years?

Yes. The calculator uses real calendar dates, so leap years with 366 days are counted correctly. February 29 is included whenever it exists.

Does Business Days Only exclude holidays?

No. The Business Days toggle only removes Saturdays and Sundays from the count. Public holidays like Christmas or Thanksgiving are still counted as business days.

What does the live counter show?

When one of your dates is today, a live counter appears. It updates every second to show the exact elapsed time or remaining time in days, hours, minutes, and seconds.

How accurate are the month and year numbers?

They are approximations. The calculator divides by 30.44 for months and 365.25 for years. These are averages because months and years are not all the same length. The Precise Breakdown section gives you an exact count using real calendar months.

What is the Precise Breakdown?

It shows your result split into exact years, months, weeks, and days based on real calendar lengths. For example, 400 days might show as 1 year, 1 month, 0 weeks, and 5 days.

What does Creative Mode do?

Creative Mode writes your result as a full sentence. It combines the day count, the precise breakdown, and the date into one easy-to-read statement. It is helpful if you want to share or copy a nicely worded result.

How do I copy my result?

Click the Copy Result button below the main result. It copies the day count, breakdown, and date details to your clipboard so you can paste it anywhere.

What are the Quick-Pick Popular Dates?

These are preset dates for holidays, historical events, and milestones. Click any one and the calculator fills in the dates and runs the calculation for you automatically.

What is the Milestone Progress chart?

It is a bar chart that shows common milestones like 100 days, 1 year, 500 days, 1,000 days, 5 years, and 10 years. A red line marks where your day count falls so you can see which milestones you have passed and which are ahead.

Can I use this calculator on my phone?

Yes. The calculator works on all screen sizes. The date fields will open your phone's built-in date picker, making it easy to select dates on mobile devices.

What is the oldest date I can enter?

You can enter any valid date that your browser's date picker supports. Most browsers allow dates going back hundreds of years, so historical dates like July 4, 1776 work fine.

What do Lunar Cycles and School Years mean in the results?

These are fun comparisons in the In Other Terms section. A lunar cycle is about 29.5 days (one full moon to the next), and a school year is about 180 days. They help you picture the time span in different ways.

Why does the hours section sometimes disappear?

The hours and minutes display only shows when the gap between your dates is under 730 days (about 2 years). For longer time spans, the number gets very large and is not as useful.
