Introduction

Need to know what time it is in another part of the world? Our free Time Zone Calculator makes it simple. Just pick a date, enter a time, and choose the two time zones you want to compare. The tool will instantly convert the time for you and show the exact difference in hours and minutes. It also tells you if the date changes during the conversion, so you never get confused about what day it is at your destination.

This calculator supports over 35 time zones across the globe, from Baker Island (UTC-12:00) all the way to the Line Islands (UTC+14:00). Whether you are scheduling a work call with a team overseas, planning a trip, or just curious about the current time in another country, this tool gives you a fast and accurate answer. Type in a city, country, or region name to quickly find the right time zone, or pick one from the dropdown list. If you also need to figure out how many hours fall between two specific times, try our Time Difference Calculator.

What Is a Time Zone Calculator?

A time zone calculator converts the time in one place to the time in another place. The Earth is split into different time zones. Each zone follows its own clock based on how far it is from a reference line called the Prime Meridian in Greenwich, London. This reference point is called UTC, which stands for Coordinated Universal Time. Every time zone has an offset from UTC, measured in hours and sometimes half hours or quarter hours. For general time arithmetic such as adding or subtracting hours and minutes, you may also find our Time Calculator useful.

Why Time Zones Exist

The Earth rotates once every 24 hours. Because of this, different parts of the world see sunlight at different times. Without time zones, noon in New York and noon in Tokyo would mean very different things. Time zones keep clocks lined up with the sun so that daytime hours make sense for people everywhere.

How Time Zone Conversion Works

To convert time between two zones, you find the difference in their UTC offsets. For example, New York is UTC-05:00 and London is UTC+00:00. The difference is 5 hours. So when it is 2:00 PM in New York, it is 7:00 PM in London. If the difference is large enough, the converted time can land on a different calendar day. This is called a day rollover. To measure the exact span of time between two dates, our Date Duration Calculator is a handy companion tool.

When You Need Time Zone Conversion

Time zone conversion is useful when you schedule meetings with people in other countries, plan international travel, watch live events broadcast from another region, or call friends and family abroad. It helps you avoid calling someone in the middle of the night or missing an important event because you got the time wrong. If you are coordinating across business days, keep in mind that weekdays and holidays may also differ between countries. For tracking how long you spend in meetings or on tasks across zones, our Work Hours Calculator and Time Card Calculator can help. Planning international travel? Our Flight Time Calculator can estimate how long your journey will take.

Unusual Time Zones

Most time zones are offset by whole hours, but some are not. India uses UTC+05:30, Nepal uses UTC+05:45, and the Chatham Islands in New Zealand use UTC+12:45. The widest offset is UTC+14:00, used by the Line Islands in Kiribati. The earliest offset is UTC-12:00, used by Baker Island. This means there can be a full 26-hour difference between two places on Earth at the same moment. If you are curious how many days remain until a specific event in another time zone, check out our Days Until Calculator. You can also use the Time Duration Calculator to measure elapsed time down to the second, or the Age Calculator to find someone's exact age across any date range.

Frequently asked questions

What time format should I use when entering a time?

Use 24-hour format written as HH:MM:SS. For example, type 15:03:09 for 3:03:09 PM or 08:30:00 for 8:30 AM. You can also leave off the seconds and just type HH:MM, like 15:03.

What does day rollover mean in the results?

Day rollover means the converted time lands on a different calendar day than the original. For example, if you convert 11:00 PM in New York to Tokyo time, the result will be the next day. The calculator tells you exactly how many days forward or backward the date shifts.

How do I search for a time zone?

Type a city name, country name, or region into the search box. The calculator will show matching time zones in a dropdown list. Click the one you want. You can also pick a time zone directly from the dropdown menu below the search box.

Does this calculator account for Daylight Saving Time?

No. This calculator uses fixed UTC offsets and does not adjust for Daylight Saving Time (DST). If one or both of your locations observe DST, you may need to manually select the correct offset for the time of year.

What does the swap button do?

The swap button switches your Convert From and Convert To time zones. This lets you quickly reverse the conversion without retyping anything.

What does UTC mean?

UTC stands for Coordinated Universal Time. It is the global time standard that all time zones are based on. Each time zone is a set number of hours and minutes ahead of or behind UTC.

Can I convert times for a past or future date?

Yes. Pick any date using the date selector. The calculator works for past, present, and future dates. Just keep in mind that it uses fixed UTC offsets and does not account for historical time zone changes.

What is the biggest possible time difference between two places?

The biggest difference is 26 hours. Baker Island uses UTC-12:00 and the Line Islands in Kiribati use UTC+14:00. That means when it is Monday on Baker Island, it can already be Tuesday evening on the Line Islands.

Why does the chart show offset in hours?

The bar chart gives you a quick visual comparison of how far each time zone is from UTC. Seeing both offsets side by side makes it easy to understand the gap between the two zones.

What is the Equivalent UTC time shown in the breakdown?

It is the exact moment in UTC that matches your entered time. The calculator first converts your source time to UTC, then converts that UTC time to the destination time zone. This step ensures an accurate result.

Can I use this calculator on my phone?

Yes. The calculator is fully responsive and works on phones, tablets, and computers. All features, including the search boxes, dropdowns, and chart, work on mobile screens.

Why do some time zones have offsets like 30 or 45 minutes?

Not every country chose a whole-hour offset from UTC. India uses UTC+05:30, Nepal uses UTC+05:45, and the Chatham Islands use UTC+12:45. These offsets were chosen to better align noon with the sun's position in those regions.

What happens if I enter an invalid time?

The calculator will show an error message asking you to enter a valid time in HH:MM:SS format. Hours must be 0 to 23, minutes 0 to 59, and seconds 0 to 59.
