Introduction
Construction is one of the fastest skills in Old School RuneScape, and also one of the most expensive. This OSRS Construction calculator shows how many planks you need, how much gold it will cost, and how long it will take to hit your goal level.
Type in your current Construction level or XP, then pick a goal. You can also load your stats straight from the OSRS Hiscores by typing your username. Prices come from live Grand Exchange data, so the gold cost stays close to what you will really pay.
The calculator covers popular training methods like oak larders, mahogany tables, teak garden benches, gnome benches, and Mahogany Homes contracts. For each one you get XP per action, actions needed, total plank cost, GP per XP, XP per hour, and butler trips.
You can also add your Carpenter's outfit pieces for bonus XP, switch to Ironman mode for sawmill prices, turn on a League XP multiplier, and set your play time per day to see how many days the grind will take.
How to use our OSRS Construction Calculator
Enter your Construction level or XP, your goal, and a few options. The calculator shows how many builds you need, how much GP it costs, and how long it takes to hit your goal.
RuneScape username (RSN): Type your player name and select Load Stats to pull your Construction level and XP from the OSRS Hiscores. You can skip this and type your stats by hand.
Account Type: Pick Main, Ironman, or F2P. Main uses Grand Exchange plank prices, Ironman uses sawmill fees, and F2P shows no methods because Construction is members-only.
Play time per day: Enter how long you train each day in hours or minutes. This adds a calendar-days column. Leave it blank or 0 to hide it.
Show time-to-goal in: Choose minutes, hours, or days for all time results.
Current Construction — input mode: Choose Level or XP. The box you pick is the one you type in, and the other one fills itself.
Current Level: Type your Construction level from 1 to 99.
Current XP: Type your exact Construction XP, up to 200,000,000. Use this for 99+ accounts.
Goal — input mode: Choose Level or XP for your target.
Goal Level: Type the level you want, from 2 to 126. Levels 100 to 126 are virtual levels.
Goal XP: Type the XP you want to reach, up to 200,000,000.
Quick goal presets: Select a button like Lv 77, Lv 83, Lv 99, Lv 100, or 200M XP to set your goal fast.
League Mode: Turn this on during a League and enter your XP multiplier from 5 to 32. All XP rates get boosted by that number.
Carpenter's Outfit Bonus: Tick each piece you own. The helmet, shirt, trousers, and boots add up to a 2% XP boost.
Method category: Filter the table by Popular, Supplies, Mahogany Homes, Sailing, Other, or All.
Sort methods by: Order the table by Recommended, fastest XP per hour, cheapest GP per XP, lowest total cost, lowest level, or name.
Methods I Can't Use Yet: Choose Show All, Greyed Out, or Hide for builds above your level.
Refresh GE prices: Select this to pull live Grand Exchange prices. If it fails, the calculator uses built-in prices.
Select (in the table): Pick the radio button next to any method to use it in the Plan Summary and the step-by-step math.
Calculate and Reset: Select Calculate to update your results, or Reset to put every setting back to default.
What Is Construction in Old School RuneScape?
Construction is a members-only skill in Old School RuneScape (OSRS). You use it to build furniture in your player-owned house (POH). Every time you build something, you gain Construction XP. The skill goes from level 1 to level 99, and it takes 13,034,431 XP to reach 99.
How You Train Construction
You build items on hotspots inside your house, then remove them and build again. You need a hammer, a saw, and planks. Most training is done in the Building mode of your house, where items build instantly and cost no money to remove.
There are four plank types. Normal planks are cheap but slow. Oak planks are the budget choice. Teak planks are middle cost. Mahogany planks give the most XP but cost the most gold.
Popular Training Methods
- Oak larder (level 33): 8 oak planks for 480 XP. A cheap, common early method.
- Mahogany table (level 52): 6 mahogany planks for 840 XP. Very fast, but expensive.
- Teak garden bench (level 66): A cheaper option than mahogany with good XP.
- Gnome bench (level 77): 6 teak planks for 840 XP. One of the best XP rates in the game.
- Mahogany Homes: A repair minigame that is much slower but far cheaper. It is the top pick for ironmen and low-cash players.
Servants and Butlers
Fast training needs a servant to fetch planks from your bank while you build. The demon butler is the best one. He carries 26 planks per trip and needs level 50 Construction and 5,000 gp per 8 tasks. Without a servant, you must run to the bank yourself, which cuts XP rates by more than half.
Carpenter's Outfit
The Carpenter's outfit comes from Mahogany Homes. Each piece gives bonus Construction XP: helmet +0.4%, shirt +0.8%, trousers +0.6%, and boots +0.2%. Wearing all four gives +2% XP. The bonus works on almost all Construction training.
Cost of Training
Construction is one of the most expensive skills in OSRS. Getting from level 1 to 99 with mahogany planks can cost hundreds of millions of gp. Cheaper routes exist: buy logs and pay the sawmill operator to turn them into planks, or use Mahogany Homes to trade speed for savings. Ironmen usually make their own planks at the sawmill.
Why Train Construction
A good house saves you a lot of time. You get teleports to many places, a gilded altar for fast Prayer XP, a pool that heals and restores stats, an ornate jewellery box, and portals to the Wilderness and other spots. Level 99 also unlocks the Construction skill cape.
