Introduction
This OSRS Max Hit Calculator tells you the highest damage you can deal in one hit in Old School RuneScape. It uses the same math the game uses behind the scenes. Just enter your Strength level, pick your gear, potions, prayers, and attack style, and the tool does the rest. It works for all melee setups, including Dharok's, Void, Obsidian, and Slayer Helm bonuses.
You can also compare two gear setups side by side to see which one hits harder. The calculator shows a full step-by-step breakdown of the formula so you can see exactly where your max hit comes from. Whether you are planning a PvP fight, a boss trip, or just want to test upgrades before you buy them, this tool gives you a fast and accurate answer. If you want to figure out your OSRS combat level alongside your max hit, we have a dedicated tool for that too.
How to Use Our OSRS Max Hit Calculator
Enter your strength level, gear, and combat settings below. The calculator will show your final max hit, a step-by-step formula breakdown, and a visual chart of your damage output.
Base Strength Level — Type your unboosted Strength level from 1 to 99. This is the number you see on your skills tab without any boosts active. If you need help planning your training, our OSRS Skill Calculator can show you exactly how much XP you need to reach your target level.
Potion — Pick the potion you plan to use. Options include Strength Potion, Super Strength, Super Combat Potion, Zamorak Brew, and Overload. Choose "None" if you are not using a potion.
Prayer — Select your active Strength prayer. Piety gives the biggest boost at ×1.23. Choose "None" if you are not using a prayer. You can plan your Prayer training with the OSRS Prayer Calculator to unlock these powerful boosts.
Attack Style — Choose your weapon's attack style. Aggressive adds +3 to your effective Strength. Controlled adds +1. Accurate and Defensive add nothing.
Monster Type — Pick the type of enemy you are fighting. This unlocks bonuses like Salve Amulet for undead, Arclight for demons, Dragon Hunter Lance for dragons, or Slayer Helm for your Slayer task.
Salve Amulet — If you selected "Undead" as your monster type, choose which Salve Amulet version you are wearing. The enchanted version gives a ×1.20 boost.
On Slayer Task & Slayer Helmet — If you selected "Slayer Monster," check the On Slayer Task box. Then pick your Black Mask or Slayer Helm version. Note that Salve Amulet and Slayer Helm do not stack.
Arclight & Dragon Hunter Lance — Check these boxes if you are using Arclight against demons or Dragon Hunter Lance against dragons. They only apply when the matching monster type is selected.
Set Multipliers — Check any set bonus that applies to your setup. Options include Void Melee (×1.10), Obsidian Armour (×1.10 with an obsidian weapon), Inquisitor's Set (×1.025 on Crush style), and Dharok's Set. These auto-fill when you pick a set bonus in the gear table.
Dharok's HP Settings — If Dharok's Set is active, enter your Current HP and Max HP. Lower current HP means a bigger damage bonus. Set Current HP to 1 for the highest possible hit.
Dragon Battleaxe Special — Check this box if you used the Dragon Battleaxe special attack to boost your Strength before switching weapons.
Special Attack Multiplier — Enter the damage multiplier for your weapon's special attack. Leave it at 1.00 for a normal hit. For example, Dragon Claws use about 1.98.
Equipment Gear Slots — Use the dropdown menus to pick your weapon, helmet, necklace, body, legs, shield, cape, gloves, boots, and ring. Each item's Strength bonus is shown, and the total is added up for you.
Equipment Strength Bonus — This field auto-fills from your gear selections. You can also type a custom number if your item is not listed.
Sort Gear Items — Switch between sorting gear by name (A–Z) or by Strength bonus (highest first) to find items faster.
Compare Two Setups — Turn this toggle on to add a second gear column called Setup B. Both setups share your Strength level, potion, prayer, and style so you can compare two loadouts side by side.
Quick Loadout Presets — Click a preset button to auto-fill a popular gear setup like Max Melee, Full Bandos, or BiS Dharok's. Click "Clear All" to reset every field.
Calculate Max Hit — Press this button to run the formula. Your final max hit, a step-by-step solution, active bonus list, and bar chart will appear below.
What Is a Max Hit in OSRS?
In Old School RuneScape (OSRS), your max hit is the highest amount of damage you can deal in a single attack. Every melee hit you land rolls a random number between 0 and your max hit. A higher max hit means you kill monsters faster and deal more damage in PvP. If you want to track your overall combat effectiveness, try our DPS Calculator to see your damage per second alongside your max hit.
How Your Max Hit Is Calculated
Your melee max hit depends on a few key things:
- Strength level – Your base Strength stat from 1 to 99.
- Potions – Drinks like Super Combat Potions boost your Strength level above its base.
- Prayers – Prayers like Piety multiply your boosted Strength by a set amount. Use our OSRS Prayer Calculator to plan the bones or ensouled heads you need for the prayer level you want.
- Attack style – Aggressive style adds +3 to your effective Strength. Controlled adds +1. Accurate and Defensive add nothing.
- Equipment Strength bonus – Every weapon and armor piece can add to this number. Better gear means a bigger bonus.
The game takes all of these inputs and runs them through a formula. First, it boosts your Strength level with potions. Then it multiplies by your prayer bonus and adds your style bonus plus 8. That gives you your effective Strength. The effective Strength is then combined with your equipment bonus to get a base max hit.
Bonus Multipliers That Stack on Top
After the base max hit is found, the game can apply extra multipliers. These include:
- Void Melee Set – Boosts effective Strength by 10%.
- Salve Amulet (e) – Adds 20% damage against undead monsters.
- Slayer Helmet – Adds about 16.67% damage while on a Slayer task. This does not stack with the Salve Amulet.
- Dharok's Set – Increases your max hit the lower your health is. At 1 HP with 99 max HP, this gives the biggest boost in the game.
- Arclight – Deals 70% more damage to demons.
- Dragon Hunter Lance – Deals 20% more damage to draconic monsters like dragons and wyverns.
- Special attacks – Some weapons have special attacks that multiply your max hit even further.
Why Knowing Your Max Hit Matters
Knowing your max hit helps you pick the best gear for any situation. Sometimes a small equipment swap adds one or two extra damage, which adds up over hundreds of kills. This calculator lets you plug in your stats, gear, prayers, and potions to see your exact max hit. You can also compare two setups side by side to find which one hits harder. Pair it with the OSRS Combat Calculator to understand how your combat level changes with your stats, or use the OSRS Dry Calculator to check how unlucky you have been on a rare drop. For players working on a mining alt or skilling account, the OSRS Mining Calculator can help you plan your training sessions. And if you also play RuneScape 3, our RuneScape Combat Calculator covers that version of the game.
