This OSRS DPS calculator shows how much damage you deal per second in Old School RuneScape. Pick your gear, set your stats, choose a monster, and see your max hit, accuracy, DPS, and time to kill.

How to use our OSRS DPS Calculator

Enter your combat stats, gear, prayers, and the monster you are fighting, and this OSRS DPS calculator shows your max hit, accuracy, damage per second, and time to kill.

What Is DPS in Old School RuneScape?

DPS means "damage per second." It tells you how much damage you deal to a monster each second, on average. In OSRS, a big max hit does not always mean fast kills. Speed and accuracy matter just as much. DPS puts all of it together into one number so you can compare gear, prayers, and combat styles fairly. The same idea shows up in other games too, which is why a general DPS Calculator exists for non-RuneScape builds.

The Three Parts of DPS

  • Max hit: the biggest damage one attack can roll. Your Strength (or Ranged, or Magic) level and your strength bonus set this number.
  • Accuracy: the chance your attack lands instead of splashing for 0. This comes from your attack level, your attack bonus, and the monster's defence.
  • Attack speed: how often you swing. Speed is counted in game ticks, and 1 tick is 0.6 seconds. A whip hits every 4 ticks (2.4 seconds), while a blowpipe hits every 3 ticks (1.8 seconds).

When an attack lands, the damage is a random roll from 0 up to your max hit, and every number has the same chance. So your average hit is about half your max hit, times your accuracy.

Accuracy: Attack Roll vs Defence Roll

OSRS compares two numbers each attack. Your attack roll comes from your effective attack level and your gear's attack bonus for the style you use. The monster's defence roll comes from its defence level and its defence bonus against that same style. The bigger your roll is compared to theirs, the more often you hit. If you want to see the raw probability behind those rolls, the math is the same coin-flip logic used anywhere else.

This is why the attack type matters so much. Many monsters are weak to crush but strong against stab, or weak to magic but tanky against ranged. Picking the right style can double your DPS without changing a single item.

Things That Boost Your Damage

  • Prayers: Piety, Rigour, and Augury raise your effective levels by a big percent. Only one prayer from each group works at a time.
  • Potions: Super combat, ranging potions, and overloads add levels for a few minutes.
  • Special gear: Salve amulet helps against undead. Slayer helmet and black mask help on task. Twisted bow gets stronger against high-magic bosses. Dragon hunter gear helps against dragons.
  • Void Knight sets: add a flat percent to accuracy and damage.
  • Defence draining: Dragon warhammer, Elder maul, Bandos godsword, and Arclight lower a boss's defence, which raises your accuracy for the rest of the fight.

Time to Kill (TTK)

TTK is how long a kill takes. It is the monster's hitpoints divided by your DPS. Because damage is random, real kills are sometimes faster and sometimes slower than the average. Kills per hour comes straight from TTK, and that is what decides your loot per hour and your XP per hour. To turn that XP rate into levels, feed it into the Runescape XP Calculator.

Why Comparing Setups Matters

The best gear for one boss can be weak at another. A slash weapon is great on a boss with low slash defence but poor on one with high slash defence. A cheap crossbow can beat an expensive bow in some fights. Comparing max hit, accuracy, DPS, and TTK side by side is the only way to know which loadout truly kills faster. Frequently asked questions

Why is my DPS different from another OSRS calculator?

Small setting gaps cause most of the difference. Check these first:

  • Combat style (Accurate, Rapid, Aggressive) and attack speed
  • Attack bonus type: stab, slash, or crush
  • Prayers, potions, and Slayer task or Void boxes
  • Monster defence drops from a spec or Bandos godsword

Also note that some effects, like bolt procs and set effects, are not simulated here.

What is a game tick and why does it matter?

A tick is 0.6 seconds. OSRS counts attack speed in ticks, not seconds.

A 4 tick weapon swings every 2.4 seconds. A 3 tick weapon swings every 1.8 seconds. Fewer ticks means more hits per minute, so speed can beat a bigger max hit.

Why is my shield being ignored?

Your weapon is two-handed. Two-handed weapons like godswords, most bows, and the Scythe of vitur block the shield slot.

The slot shows a "2h — ignored" note and the shield's bonuses are not counted. Swap to a one-handed weapon if you want the shield to work.

Why is a prayer greyed out?

Your Prayer level is too low for it. Piety needs 70 Prayer, Rigour needs 74, and Augury needs 77.

Raise the Prayer level in the stats box, or pick a lower prayer like Ultimate Strength or Eagle Eye.

Why did my other prayer switch off when I clicked a new one?

The tool copies the game rules. Prayers that clash cannot run at the same time.

For example, Piety turns off Ultimate Strength and Incredible Reflexes. You also cannot run melee, ranged, and magic prayers together.

What does the Auto (Best DPS) style button do?

It tests every combat style for your weapon and uses the one with the highest DPS.

For ranged that is usually Rapid, since the extra attack speed beats the small accuracy gain from Accurate.

When should I use Manual Mode?

Use it when the item you want is not in the gear list, or when you already know your numbers from in-game.

You type your effective attack level, effective strength level, and gear bonuses yourself. The equipment builder is skipped while it is on.

Why does Twisted bow DPS change with each monster?

The Twisted bow scales off the target's Magic level. Higher magic means more accuracy and more damage, up to a cap.

That is why it shines at bosses like Vorkath and struggles on low magic targets. The step-by-step box shows the exact percent it gives.

Do the Salve amulet and Slayer helmet stack?

No. Only one applies, and the calculator picks the stronger one, just like the game.

Salve amulet (ei) wins against undead targets. On other Slayer tasks the Slayer helmet bonus is used instead.

Why did Load Stats fail for my RSN?

Common reasons are a typo in the name, a brand new account not on the Hiscores yet, or the Hiscores blocking the request from your browser.

If it keeps failing, just type your levels into the stat boxes by hand.

Why does WikiSync say it is not detected?

WikiSync needs the RuneLite plugin running and the game open on the same computer.

If it is off or blocked, the tool cannot read your gear. Use the equipment slots or a preset instead.

What does the budget cap slider actually hide?

It hides any item priced above your cap in the item picker, Auto-Equip, and Best in Slot list.

Set it low to see the best gear you can afford now. Set it to End-Game to see everything.

Are the item prices real GE prices?

No. They are rough built-in price snapshots used for budget filtering and comparison only.

Check the live Grand Exchange before you buy anything.

Does the hit distribution chart include misses?

Yes. The bar at 0 damage holds every miss plus the times you roll a 0 on a hit.

That is why 0 is usually the tallest bar. Every other damage number from 1 to your max hit has the same chance.

What do median and 90th percentile mean on the TTK chart?

Median is the time by which half your kills are done. The 90th percentile is the time by which 9 out of 10 kills are done.

Use the 90th percentile to plan for bad luck runs, like tight supply trips or timed kills.

Do defence reductions stack with the Bandos godsword drain?

Yes. The percent cut from a spec like Dragon warhammer or Elder maul is applied first, then the Bandos godsword drain removes flat defence levels.

The badge near the monster name shows what is currently applied.

How exact are the cannon and Vengeance numbers?

They are flat estimates added on top of your weapon DPS. The cannon adds about 1 DPS and Vengeance adds about 0.25 DPS.

Real values change with how many monsters are nearby and how often you get hit.

Does the calculator include bolt effects or set effects?

No. Things like diamond bolts (e) procs, the Dharok's low HP effect, and Osmumten's fang reroll are not simulated.

Only the listed gear bonuses, prayers, potions, and the special item effects shown in the bonus table are counted.

How do I set up a boss phase like Zulrah or Kalphite Queen?

Search the boss, then pick the form in the Variant / phase dropdown. Each phase has its own defence stats.

Set Monster's Current HP to the health of that phase so the time-to-kill fits just that part of the fight.

Which attack bonus type should I pick for melee?

Match your weapon's best attack and the monster's weakest defence.

  • Whip and scimitar: slash
  • Rapier and fang: stab
  • Maul and warhammer: crush

Check the monster's defence table. The lowest number is usually the style to use.

Why is my accuracy near 100% but my DPS still low?

Accuracy is only one part of DPS. A slow weapon or a small max hit still means low damage per second.

Look at max hit and attack speed too. A faster weapon with a smaller hit often wins.

Does the number of targets box really multiply my DPS?

It multiplies total damage across all targets for AoE spells like Ice Barrage and Blood Barrage.

Single target DPS stays the same. Time to kill still uses one monster's HP.

Can I save my loadouts for later?

No. Loadouts reset when you reload the page.

Write down your gear list, or take a screenshot of the results before you close the tab.

What is an effective level?

It is your real skill level after boosts are added. The order is: potion boost, then prayer percent, then combat style bonus, then a flat +8 (or +9 for magic).

Why does Tumeken's shadow show such a huge magic bonus?

The shadow triples your magic attack bonus and magic damage from gear, the same as in game.

That is why cheap magic gear works well with it, and why swapping in an occult or ancestral gives a bigger jump than normal.
